Power was derived from the standard 6.0-litre V12 engine used in the CL 600, but extensively reworked by Brabus. Depending on specification, displacement was often increased to 6.7 or even 7.3 litres through internal modifications including a larger bore and stroke, strengthened internals and revised engine management. Output typically rose to between 500 and well over 550 horsepower, accompanied by enormous torque available from very low engine speeds. The result was effortless, relentless acceleration delivered with remarkable smoothness rather than aggression. A reinforced automatic transmission was used to handle the increased torque while maintaining seamless gear changes suited to long-distance cruising.
The CL-Class platform provided a highly advanced and rigid foundation. Brabus complemented this with significant chassis upgrades to manage the car’s performance and weight. Suspension was re-engineered with sport-tuned springs and dampers, often combined with height-adjustable systems, allowing the car to maintain composure at very high speeds while preserving ride comfort. Braking systems were heavily uprated, typically featuring large ventilated and drilled discs with multi-piston calipers to ensure consistent stopping power under extreme conditions.
Styling modifications were bold yet cohesive, reflecting Brabus’s philosophy of visual dominance matched to mechanical capability. Exterior changes often included deep front spoilers, sculpted side skirts and a revised rear apron designed to improve aerodynamics and cooling. Large Brabus alloy wheels filled the arches, giving the car a powerful stance and immediately signalling its performance potential. Despite the aggressive detailing, the overall design retained the formal elegance of the CL-Class, avoiding overt flamboyance.
Inside, the cabin was typically transformed into a bespoke luxury environment. Brabus interiors were tailored to individual customer preferences and could include exclusive leather upholstery, contrasting stitching, Alcantara headlining, carbon fibre or wood trim and Brabus-branded instrumentation. Comfort and refinement remained paramount, with excellent noise insulation and supportive seating ensuring the car remained suitable for long-distance travel despite its extreme performance.
On the road, the Mercedes-Benz CL 600 V12 Brabus delivered a driving experience defined by overwhelming torque and composure. Acceleration was immediate and continuous, with the car gaining speed effortlessly and without drama. High-speed cruising was its natural environment, where stability, refinement and power combined to create a sense of unstoppable momentum.
