AC Sociable

The car was also equipped with hydraulic brakes and a four-speed manual transmission. Under the hood, the AC Sociable was powered by a six-cylinder engine that could produce up to 80 horsepower, giving the car a top speed of around 90 miles per hour. This was a significant improvement over the earlier AC 16/70, which had a less powerful engine and a lower top speed.

The Sociable version of the car featured a convertible top that could be lowered to provide an open-air driving experience. When the top was up, the car’s “suicide doors” made it easy for passengers to enter and exit the vehicle, even in tight parking spaces.

The AC Sociable was introduced at a time when Britain was still recovering from the Great Depression, and the car was marketed as a symbol of wealth and luxury. It quickly became popular among the country’s wealthy elite, who appreciated its comfortable ride and elegant styling.

During World War II, AC Cars shifted its focus to producing military vehicles, and production of the Sociable was halted. After the war, the company resumed production of the 16/80, but the Sociable version was not reintroduced.

Today, the AC Sociable is highly prized by collectors and vintage car enthusiasts, who appreciate its unique features and elegant styling. Restored examples of the car can fetch high prices at auctions, and it remains a popular choice among classic car enthusiasts around the world.
